Innovative and leading broadcasting service provider relies on Silex Media’s solution, launched today at IBC, to enable cost effective use of Apple Final Cut Pro with transparent MXF support and reduced edit workflow time-to-air

IBC Show -  Amsterdam, September 6, 2007

DutchView once again enhance their broadcast productivity

As one of the leading broadcasting facilities and service providers in The Netherlands, DutchView are constantly striving to offer best value and most cost effective solutions for their broadcast customers needs. This involves the continual search for new and innovative ways to enhance and optimize their production workflows.

AtomFactory provided DutchView the best solution

When DutchView decided to introduce Apple Final Cut Pro as a new editing platform, they naturally approached Silex Media experts to solve some key issues concerning interoperability and productivity.  Phillip Maher, the Chief Technology Officer of DutchView explained, “Turnaround times for getting material to air are ever more challenging, especially for live events. We needed a solution to use Apple’s tool without compromising on the speed of the whole broadcast workflow”. He continued, “Having had a positive experience in working with Silex Media to optimize the performance for one of our other editing platforms, we were keen to apply the same approach for Apple’s Final Cut Pro.(FCP)”

AtomFactory launched at IBC 2007

AtomFactory is the latest in a range of media workflow acceleration tools that is being launched at IBC 2007. Having recognized how more and more broadcasters are adopting FCP  in their production departments, Silex Media developed AtomFactory to specifically address the need for FCP to fit seamlessly into broadcast workflows.

One of the major functionality that AtomFactory brings is the ability for FCP to work transparently in an MXF-based based broadcast environment. As many broadcasters work with MXF content, AtomFactory provides them with the ability to integrate Apple FCP workgroups into their existing workflow by providing server-based wrapping to QuickTime. This not only offloads Apple clients from any front-end processing requirements, it also means that broadcasters can operate heterogeneous editing environments and transition FCP into and existing environment, instead of taking a “rip-and-replace” strategy.

AtomFactory also brings large benefits to broadcasters in significantly reducing the time-to-air capability for content that needs a very quick turnaround. It enables both “edit-whilst-ingest” as well as “playout-whilst-fusion” to be achieved. It also allows conform to be taken care of on the server side to free up resources on computer clients. There are a number of other features which the solution brings, including bandwidth management and growing file support.

Silex Media’s partnership with Apple

Silex Media has been working in partnership with Apple to ensure that there is seamless integration between AtomFactory and FCP. As an approved ISV partner of Apple, Silex Media recognizes the huge interest which FCP has generated in the broadcast industry and is focued to enable customers with their migration or integration strategies.

Special Edition for Apple Resellers: AtomFactory Workgroup Edition

To support the needs of Apple specialist who are tasked to support broadcast customers, Silex Media is also introducing a starter kit called AtomFactory Workgroup Edition. It is available immediately with a list price of 4,999 Euros. It consists of 5 clients, 1 bi-directional stream server for MAC OS X and a 1 year subscription license including support.
