Silex Media announces continued systems integration success, expanded services and introduces new product

IBC Amsterdam - Silex Media, a leading digital workflow solution provider operating in the Broadcast and Media market, has today announced that it is continuing to build momentum in the industry after securing a series of new system integration customer wins. In addition, the expansion of its service offerings and the announcement of its new product, Hydrogen, are expected to present further sales opportunities in the very near future.

Silex Media became independent in April of this year, after being Silicon Graphics' Inc dedicated Broadcast department for 2 years, during which it became recognised as a leading systems integrator for the broadcast market with over 30 installations throughout Europe.

"The shape of the broadcast market is changing rapidly as companies see increased competition in the space and need to improve workflows in order to stay in front," said Stephan Schindler, CEO at Silex Media. "The solutions that Silex Media offers are a positive step forward in the way in which the industry operates and are creating a lot of excitement amongst our customers. The broadcaster faces interesting challenges and opportunities and is looking to work with experienced vendors that can offer value through technology solutions without compromising, or putting pressure on, existing IT infrastructures. Silex Media is ideally positioned to meet these demands."

Recent customer engagements for Silex Media include:

  • France2: part of the major French public broadcaster France Télévisions that comprises of approximately 10 national and thematic channels, has taken the first steps to move the recently installed autopromotion solution into production and expects to be fully operational by the end of the year. This project, for the production and playout of teasers includes SGI hardware, whilst Silex Media enhances the solution by providing project management, incorporating new business needs and offering a customized software solution based on Harris and OpenCube.
  • CIRIS, a Netherlands post-production facility where Silex Media is managing the next phase of the CIRIS Dynamic Platform project. The implementation of the Ardendo asset management system continues to be expanded to accommodate the requirements of several new customers.
  • At Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), Silex Media is currently finalizing 4 major projects. Being the prime contractor for delivering a complete newsroom system based on Dalet software development for integration with the graphic and playout systems from VizRT; supplying the integration between Avid ISIS and the DR Media Archive; developing integration between Media Archive and Harris Playout automation as well as delivering the additional functionality for DR's Media Archive which includes more advanced archiving workflows and offers support for new devices.

Announced separately, Silex Media also expects the introduction of its new product, Hydrogen, to further impact the speed in which the broadcast market continues to change. Based on a framework design, the Hydrogen Media Acceleration and Hydrogen Archive Service modules will enable organisations to simply and effectively integrate existing applications and production islands within an existing Media Asset Management environment, or allow them to use the technology to create a complete Media Lifecycle Management system for archives and production.

A key benefit that Hydrogen brings to the market is that customers can develop the solution at a pace that suits their business rather than needing to take all the "all or nothing" approach. The openness of the solution allows Silex Media and 3rd party developers to create specific modules and interfaces based on customer and market needs, both for the traditional broadcast market but also as a bridge to markets like telco and internet.

Silex Media has also announced an expansion of its service offering. Kees Vos, Director of Customer Services at Silex Media explains: "the advanced solutions that our team has installed over the years touch the heart of the customer's business. Our customers are asking us to not only provide traditional support for the installed projects, but also what we call co-sourcing: work together with their teams in providing operational solution support."

The company recently established new headquarter premises in Munich, Germany and has regional representation in the UK, Denmark, France and the Netherlands. Silex Media currently employs 25 members of staff, with 4 new recruits recently joining to focus on sales opportunities alone.

At the Silex Media booth (hall 7, 7.328), the company will provide details of the new announcements and will be discussing case study examples of recent implementations.
